In turning inward, I found home

This collection started in the early days of lockdown as a way to soothe myself, to find some mental refuge. I sought my happy place, which has always been rolling hills, lush deciduous trees rustling in the breeze, a touch of warm sunshine, and big open skies. So much of my work revolves around the majestic lines of mountains and unique character of pine trees, but home will always be green hills. It’s where I feel free and calm.

I pulled heavily from childhood memories in the Chilterns and Lake District in England, apricot orchards in Naples, rural pastures of northeastern Ohio, tree-lined fields in Pennsylvania, and so many places in between. Without a doubt, my love and studies of Romantic Literature have an influence, with many of the same ideals hold dear in works by Wordsworth, Burns, and Blake featuring into the sense of restless search for freedom and the idealization of the land.

I consider The Hills of Home to be my refuge among green braes and lively trees. I happily lose myself in each piece, with its sweeping landscape under painterly clouds moving overhead. I hope this collection brings you a bit of the peace it has brought me in its creation.

Soft moments to bring peace and hearten you.

Soft moments to hearten

When I hold memories dear, savoring the love and happiness they bring, I find its often the soft moments I call on. The simple and almost mundane experiences that might almost go unnoticed at the time, because they seem so perfectly ordinary.

Walking through the fields for a bit of sunshine and fresh air, and sitting with loved ones in the sunshine. Stepping through soft earth and climbing apricot trees, eating the fruit as a snack. Running across hay bales with friends. Hiking my parents’ back woods with my son, following the stream to ponds. Standing in the middle of a quiet field, alone and still, and taking in the all-embracing sky above.

It’s these moments that I always take for granted, yet prove to be the most treasured in retrospect. These pieces bring me those same feelings of warmth and love and easy calm.
